My Music Journey

PIANO
At age seven, my parents encouraged me to learn the piano. And so, my journey with it began. Since I started, I have achieved the ARSM with Distinction at age 14 and was awarded ‘Outstanding’ at the Oxford Music Festival by playing Prokofiev’s Toccata. Beyond mastering technique and playing, I have been focusing on using the piano for community outreach, utilizing it to hold workshops where I teach music to those with limited access.

BASSOON
I chose the bassoon to carve out a unique musical identity, a decision that evolved into a genuine passion . I have served as the 1st Bassoon for several prestigious symphony orchestras and have been awarded multiple music scholarships . Having achieved ABRSM Grade 8 with Distinction, I have performed in numerous high-level ensembles and international festivals, deepening my self-expression through this versatile instrument.
Hong Kong Youth Barclampory Music Festival
The Hong Kong Youth Barclampory Music Festival is a well-regarded youth music competition, known for its high performance standards and professional adjudication panel, which brings together talented young musicians and experienced educators. In this year’s competition, I received SECOND Prize in the Piano Open Class, SECOND Prize in the Winds and Brass Class (Secondary School Section), and THIRD Prize in the Piano Modern Class.
Beyond performing, the experience itself was very rewarding. I gained stage experience from the feedback and learned from the other young musicians. The most memorable part, however, was meeting some of Hong Kong’s most well-known pianists. Meeting these figures was an inspiring and humbling moment where I realised how much I still could improve.
Overall, this experience taught me so much about myself as not only a performer but a musician as a whole.
Piano Together Concert
I founded and organized ‘Piano Together’, a music initiative where we provided workshops to teach underprivileged children piano in Hong Kong. As someone who grew up with the opportunities to pursue my musical hobbies, I recognized that classical music often hides behind socio-economic barriers, so I wanted to break these barriers down for young musicians in Hong Kong. Through teaching, I realized how so many people possess innate musical ability—a phenomenon aligned with Noam Chomsky’s theory of Nativism, where children could have biological mechanisms that allow them to recognize and process pitches structurally, similar to language. Furthermore, sharing music allowed me to develop leadership and helped me recognize the power of sound in bridging social divides.
Qingdao Bassoon Festival
I attended the Qingdao bassoon festival in 2024, and it was an incredible experience. I performed in various masterclasses with top bassoonists around the world; I played Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto and improved my technique and lyrical ability. I was even part of the Guinness World Record for the most bassoonists in an ensemble!
